Sometimes there is a striking elegance in simplicity. The Good Blue makes amazing nibs and very interesting pens. The R615 in "Summer Blue" is a medium sized bright blue aluminum pen with a raw brass section. A knurled band of brass separates the cap and the body. There is a flat facet on one side of the cap and body, providing a unique roll stop.

The brand name 'The Good Blue' is engraved around the top of the section. The nib is engraved with the words 'For Love Of Flex.' The special polymer feed is rather fun - it takes on the color of the ink.

TACTILE

I love the feel of shallow knurling. It's such a fun contrast with the smooth aluminum. Most of the weight of this pen is contained in this brass section and it makes for a very comfortable balance when writing.

There is a huge step up from the section to the barrel. Coupled with the relatively narrow section, I expected to have more issues holding this pen. It's not the most comfortable to hold, but I think the grippiness of raw (rather than polished/coated) metal helps.

This flex nib is so much fun. The titanium nib has a very large slit and cut in wings to provide extra flex ability. It flexes with moderate pressure, and the polymer feed keeps up most of the time. I find that as a flex pen it dumps quite a bit of ink on the page when flexed. I also enjoy using it at usual writing pressure just to enjoy the bounciness. It's not the softest flex nib I've used, but it is nice and responsive.

I did have some issues with the converter not wanting to stay attached to the feed at first, but after a bit of finagling I seem to have solved that issue.

OVERALL

Pros:

  • Super fun flex nib

  • Well-balanced weight

Cons:

  • Doesn't post

  • Weirdly narrow section and huge step up to barrel

The titanium flex nib was my main reason for purchasing this pen, and it doesn't disappoint. It is one of my favorite flex nibs. The pen itself looks great and strangely is not uncomfortable to write with, even though it looks like it should be.
