The Natami Flight of Time is an interesting cigar-shaped demonstrator pen with a faceted cap and barrel. The trim and nib are rose gold. The cap finial is interesting - there is a conical rose gold inner cap detail that is encased in clear plastic.

The cap band is engraved with the words Flight of Time 1919. The section is also clear, giving a full view of the feed. The section band and the barrel threads are also rose gold.

I like the engraved design on the nib - it's just a series of arcs along the sides of the nib, but it's rather elegant and pretty.

TACTILE

This pen has a decent weight to it, and holds quite a bit of weight in its cap for some reason. Nearly half the weight of the pen is specifically the cap.

There is a fairly sharp step up from the section to the barrel. The section is long enough that my fingers aren't too affected by this, but it's sharp enough that I certainly keep it in mind.

The facets on the cap and barrel are numerous and shallow. They definitely would not work as roll stops the way that a Kaweco or TWSBI Eco's faceting does.

PRACTICAL
ree

I really wanted to like this nib, but either it is a very dry writer or it just can't keep up with a shimmer ink. I've only tried a shimmer ink in it so far, so I'll have to give it a go soon with a different ink to see how it does.

The cap can technically post, but it doesn't grab well to the barrel. It takes quite a bit of pressure to get it to stay on in the first place, and any lateral movement knocks it off easily. The pen is long enough to use comfortably unposted, but I would prefer to post it if it was less problematic. Additionally, the cap is surprisingly heavy, so if you face the cap to the ground it's also working hard to accidentally fall off when least expected.

OVERALL

Pros:

  • Cool nib design

  • Tiny faceted design is rather unique

Cons:

  • Dry flow makes this nib hard to use with shimmer ink, and I love using shimmers in demonstrators

  • The cap would prefer not to post and wants to make a break for it at every opportunity

I'm not certain what of this design was inspired by 'Flight of Time'. It's a nice looking pen with a bit of an unpleasant nib. As someone who loves to post pens even when it doesn't make sense to do so, I wish the cap behaved better.
