The Schuylkill is a long, decently large piston filler. This color, Porpita Navy, is a swirling mix of a mid-tone blue and a coppery-orange brown. There is a scattering of shimmery chatoyance throughout both colors of resin. I've seen images of this pen that range from ones that look more like mine, where the swirls look to be more brown than orange, and others that have a lot more orange in them. I actually like the look with the brown effect!

The nib, clip, and a thin band above the piston knob are all a bright gold that pops against the blues.

There is a nice ink window right below the cap. It's nice to have an ink window that is visible when the pen is still capped

TACTILE

The resin of this nib feels satisfyingly solid. The softened edges of the cap and finials are very pleasing to the touch, and the weight of the pen feels appropriate to its size.

The section slopes in to tapered lip, but it's a nice comfortable width. My fingers tend to rest lightly on the threads, which are not too sharp and don't cause any irritation.

PRACTICAL
ree

This steel nib is amazing. It is one of my favorite fine steel nibs when I'm in the mood for effortless gliding. It has very little feedback and writes like a dream. Also, I really like Nahvalur's narwhal design on their nibs.

The Schuylkill has an impressively large ink chamber. I've seen some people report that it holds 4ml, but in my testing I get more like 2ml of ink in this pen. However, that is still a decent volume!

The cap can be posted, but when posted this pen is very long and more backweighted. It's fortunately a comfortable length to use unposted. Additionally, posting the cap places it entirely on the piston knob, which risks an inky disaster as the piston knob moves fairly easily.

OVERALL

Pros:

  • Super nice nib

  • Comfortable size

  • Substantial ink volume

Cons:

  • A bit long when posted

  • Posts on piston knob

I really like the Schuylkill model. Porpita Navy is a beautiful color. I really love how this pen writes, and the ink chamber also has a great seal on it - I find that this pen stays inked and writes reliably for months.
