The Majohn P139 is a large, chonky pen with decent weight. The pen features a large cap and a beautiful sparkly resin body. The white glittery color is one of the prettier white resins I've seen, and it has great depth!

The top of the barrel features a generous ink window that is completely obscured when capped. The resin is just barely translucent enough that you can slightly see the ink level through the barrel, but with a large ink window it's not particularly necessary to squint.

This pen has a massive 8mm nib. I love the design of the nib - it's exciting enough that they're making these in medium, but having the sun engraving around the breather hole is extra fun.

TACTILE

This pen feels very dense. Even the cap feels sturdy and satisfyingly thick-walled. The cap has a scallop pattern on it that is also pleasantly smooth. The section is rather short, and there is no way of avoiding the cap threads. The cap threads aren't the smoothest, but the spacing is tight enough that they're not a large bother. There is a very slight sloped step up from the section to the threads. There is also a slight texture to the top of the piston knob, and the piston knob then slightly steps down and continues narrowing.

PRACTICAL
ree

Functionally, huge 8mm nibs don't necessarily perform better or worse than 6mm or even 5mm nibs. I just really like the longer distance between my fingers and the page, but don't feel like I lose control. Perhaps it's a factor of the fact that I do have longer fingernails, but larger nibs are generally more comfortable for me to use.

This pen does take about 2.5 rotations to uncap - not exhaustingly long, but longer than most.

The P139 posts firmly, with the edge of the cap band gripping on the textured part of the piston knob. On the downside, you have to make sure the piston knob is screwed on tight as the cap has a chance of turning the piston.

OVERALL

Pros:

  • Beautiful 8mm nib

  • Large ink capacity with a nice ink window

Cons:

  • Massively long when posted

  • Posts on the piston knob

I love this pen. The combination of the size, the color, the utility, and the large nib just make this such a fun pen to write with. I did occasionally have some nib clogging with a shimmer ink - not sure if that is from the extra length of the feed, or just part of working with shimmer inks, so I'll have to keep playing with this pen to determine that.
